How the Affordable Housing Initiative works, who can apply, and how applicants are selected.

About the program

It is a new member benefit that helps connect healthcare workers with affordable homes. We’ve partnered with High Art Capital to bring eligible members access to 650 units with rents at least 25%* below market rates, allowing them to live closer to where they work.

SEIU Healthcare members who spend a long time commuting and want to find an affordable home that is located closer to where they work.

No. We are connecting members to these opportunities and assisting with the application process, but the units are owned by High Art Capital. We are not responsible for administration, leasing, property management, or tenant issues.

Phase 1 homes are available August 19th in the Yonge and Eglinton area of Toronto. More homes will be available across the GTA to over time, with a total of 650 available units.

No. This initiative is in partnership with High Art Capital based on available units and comes at no cost to members.

Availability is based on available units from our partners at High Art Capital. Due to developments currently being built, availability is limited to the GTA.

ELIGIBILITY

Who can apply

We prioritize members with an annual household income under $110,890 and a commute to work over 60 minutes one way. Applicants are subject to standard landlord screening including credit check, income verification, and rental reference review.

No. Simply self declare based on the criteria outlined when you apply. SEIU Healthcare will then validate every eligible application before affordable housing opportunities are given.

Yes. Our eligibility check will tell you whether you meet the criteria to apply in under a minute.

APPLICATION

Submitting your information

Sign in with your SEIU Healthcare ID, pass the quick eligibility check, then complete a short form about you, your workplace, your commute and your annual household income.

Yes. You can save your progress at any point and pick up where you left off from the same device or by signing back in.

Your SEIU membership number, basic contact details, and a few facts about your income, your commute, the modes of transport you use, and the facility where you work.

SELECTION

Choosing applicants

We are prioritizing SEIU Healthcare members with long commute times and maximum household incomes. If there are more applicants than homes available, High Art Capital will randomly select eligible applicants.

Every application will be thoroughly validated by SEIU Healthcare before final selection. High Art Capital is a completely independent third party and the selection process will be completely random and fully transparent throughout.

What happens next

You can track your application status online after you submit. If you are chosen, we will contact you directly about next steps.

While the first homes are available August 19th, 650 units will be available across the GTA in the months ahead.
